What is Gensight and why would my doctor order this for me?: GeneSight Psychotropic is a pharmacogenomic test which means that it analyzes how your genes may affect medication outcomes. The GeneSight test analyzes clinically important genetic variations in your DNA. Results can inform your doctor about how you may break down or respond to certain medications commonly prescribed to treat depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric conditions.
How do these tests work? The GeneSight test must be ordered by your doctor or nurse practitioner. The test is a simple cheek swab can be sent by your doctor to be taken at the convenience of your home.
What is the cash price? Over 95% of patients pay $330 or less for their GeneSight test. Payment plans can be arranged with the company.
Will insurance cover this test and how much of it will I pay for it? Typically commercial insurance does not cover this. Insurance can be complicated, and we want you to feel comfortable knowing what you’ll owe. We promise that if your cost could be more than $330, we’ll call you before we process your test.
How and when do I get the results? Your provider will review the results with you during your follow-up visit. At that appointment or shortly after, NovoTelehealth can email you a copy of your results.
